Goodbye to a business innovation legend   Leave a comment

 A moment of recognition for the late Steve Jobs.   If you want to know what made a business legend ‘tick’ and what advice he leaves, you might enjoy this 15 minute video of his superb 2005 address to Stanford University.

For managers: de-clutter the team’s to-do list   4 comments

Doing some research for a workshop focusing on productivity, I found this idea on another blog called Winning Ideas (hey, it’s not plagiarism if I credit them properly !).

The idea is something you may do anyway from time to time. The difference here is that they do it regularly, systematically, and the whole team does it at the same time. The idea ?  Simple: spring cleaning your week’s to-do list to get rid of the accumulated clutter.

I like this for a couple of reasons:

  1. The team gets to learn from each other and therefore improves as a unit
  2. It becomes a discipline, which everyone feels better about afterwards (you know that feeling you get when you’ve done the dozen little niggly tasks that occur to you only when you’re driving).
  3. More time can be spent in the rest of the week focusing on the bigger (important/urgent) tasks.

Certainly the idea is going to make its way into my client’s workshop.

Achieving Change – engage the power of emotion   Leave a comment

Planning change ?

Perhaps you’ve read the excellent book “Switch – How to Change Things When Change is Hard” by Chip and Dan Heath.

If not, and you’re a manager in charge of people, then do so. It’s engaging, accessible, and authoritative. In THIS LINK to YouTube (we may add more like this one) we see a 3-minute video of Dan Heath explaining the value of appealing to peoples’ feelings before trying the chainsaw-juggling that is “managing change”.

I share their view; whether embarking on personal change or rolling-out a large professional change programme, generating emotional drive increases success by creating the willpower necessary to reach the goals.
